As I arrive in 2026 I find myself with the very real possibility of being made redundant from my tech job of 20 years. Ironically 2026 being the 20 year anniversary. However instead of receiving a gold watch, I will most likely receive my P45.
I decide to start preparing and scouting for a job and then freak out at what's out there and what I need. Is it really worth carrying on as a developer anyway since being told smaller companies just use Claude AI to write their systems. Who is going to want a human on a salary when they can just "knock it up" themselves?
Good Question....
Where can I even pivot to in 2026 that isn't at risk of becoming obsolete when AI can "knock it up" and it "does the job"?
As much as I love being in tech maybe its time to switch up to something only a human can do in the physical world?
